Updated: Feb 19, 2025

Meet Jackie Tamba, a Determined Young Scholar

Age: 12 years

Class: 5th grade

Jackie's story is one of resilience and determination. Growing up in a family of eight children, her parents, a petty trader and a commercial driver, work hard to make ends meet. Despite their best efforts, the family faces significant financial challenges.

To help support her family, Jackie and her siblings take on various responsibilities, including selling goods at the market. Some days, Jackie sells in the morning and attends school in the afternoon, while other days, she attends school in the morning and sells in the afternoon. This demanding schedule has been the norm for Jackie and her family.

However, Jackie's life took a dramatic turn when she met the Team Jesus Africa Scholarship committee. With her tray of plantain chips in hand, Jackie's determination and potential caught the attention of the committee, and she was awarded a scholarship.

This scholarship has been a game-changer for Jackie, providing her with the opportunity to focus on her education and pursue her dreams without the burden of financial stress. We are proud to support Jackie on her academic journey and look forward to seeing the incredible impact she will make in her community.
